Forrest General's Cardiac Catheterization Lab performs electrophysiology studies to diagnose and treat patients with heart rhythm problems. A slow, irregular or rapid heartbeat could indicate a serious problem. Electrophysiology studies analyze the heart's electrical system to help physicians determine the most effective course of treatment. Treatment may include implanting a pacemaker or internal defibrillator or the use of a catheter-based ablation procedure to correct the abnormal heart beat.
