Forrest General provides excellence in all aspects of inpatient and outpatient surgical care, from pre-admission testing to discharge teaching. Forrest General offers a complete range of surgical services in the following specialties:
- General and thoracic surgery
- Urology
- Plastic surgery
- Otolaryngology (ear, nose and throat)
- Ophthalmology
- Dentistry
- Oral and maxillofacial surgery
The Surgical Services Department provides quality perioperative care for inpatients and outpatients. Care is provided 24 hours a day, seven days a week to all ages in all surgical specialties except organ transplant. Surgical Services is composed of 17 operating rooms, a pre-testing department, a 22-bed pre-operative area and a Post-Anesthesia Care Unit. There are operating suites specifically designed with state-of-the-art equipment for open heart procedures, minimally-invasive laparoscopic procedures and vascular procedures.
Safety and quality outcomes for our patients are of greatest importance; therefore preventing surgical complications is a major priority. Forrest General participates in nationally-accepted protocols to help reduce the incidence of post-surgical infections and blood clots. The surgical team participates in a "time out" just prior to the procedure when all members of the team pause for a final confirmation that all safety precautions are in place for the right patient, procedure and body part.
