Forrest General announces Breland as 2009 Employee of the Year
Forrest General is pleased to announce that Pam Breland, FNP, has been selected as the hospital’s Employee of the Year for 2009. The award was given during the annual Forrest General Employee Christmas Party on December 11.
Breland began working at Forrest General as a new graduate nurse in the Emergency Department in 1975. Breland also served as Nurse Manager, Acting Director, and Clinician/Educator for the Emergency Department, and as a nurse with Forrest General Home Care. Breland obtained her Masters in Public Health and Masters in Nursing, Family Nurse Practitioner, graduating with the first class of Family Nurse Practitioners from The University of Southern Mississippi School of Nursing in 1996, and went on to serve as a Family Nurse Practitioner at Urgent Care, HealthWorks, and in her current position in Forrest General’s Employee Health Services Clinic.
In her current role, Breland’s caring manner touches the lives of a great majority of Forrest General’s 3,000+ employees as she cares for them in the hospital’s Employee Health Services Clinic. Terry Sanford, Employee Health Services Operations Manager, says that it has been her privilege over the last 17 years to work with Breland, who she considers a friend as well as an employee, and that the award is well-deserved. “Words such as compassionate, dedicated, honest, respectful and loyal come to my mind when describing Pam,” said Sanford. “She has seen my family and countless other families through very difficult times. When there is a critical diagnosis, she has wept with and supported many patients and their families and sought out ways to give them the best of care as she would give her own family.” Sanford added that Breland not only gives her time and talents to her work, but to her church and community as well.
Troy Daniels, Director of Forrest General Human Resources Support, said “In my role, I’m responsible for most of the benefits we offer to the FGH staff. Employee Health Services is a fantastic example of the benefits and service we provide not only to the staff but to covered dependents as well. Pam, as part of this team, exemplifies excellence and pushes this particular benefit from ‘good’ to ‘great,’ representing everything an “Employee of the Year” should be.”
Breland notes that the most enjoyable benefits of working in the clinic are the relationships that she is able to develop with employees and their families. “I am committed to Forrest General, its employees and its mission in our community,” said Breland. “My job gives me the great opportunity to give back to the hospital that has shaped my healthcare career by providing personalized, professional health care for my Forrest General ‘family.’”
