Forrest General, Southern Heart Center selected for national clinical trial
Southern Heart Center and Forrest General Hospital have been selected by IDev Technologies, Inc., of Houston, Texas, as one of 40 centers in the U.S. and Europe to participate in the company’s FDA-approved, multi-centered clinical trial of its self-expanding SUPERA® stent. This novel stent platform is designed for the treatment of peripheral arterial disease in the superficial femoral artery.

Peripheral arterial disease, or P.A.D., affects approximately 8 – 12 million people in the U.S. alone, according to the American Heart Association. The clinical trial, called the SUPERB trial (Comparison of the Supera® Peripheral System to a Performance Goal Derived from Balloon Angioplasty Clinical Trials in the Superficial Femoral Artery), is a prospective single-arm trial of 258 patients at up to 40 U.S. sites. The objective of this study is to demonstrate the safety and effectiveness of the Supera® stent in the treatment of obstructive arterial disease in the superficial femoral artery of the lower extremity.

Bill Montfort, representative for IDev Technologies, Inc., says “Forrest General and the physicians of the Southern Heart Center were selected to participate in the study based on the volume of patients with peripheral arterial disease treated at their facility, as well as their reputation for delivering quality, cutting-edge care.”

“We are excited to be one of 40 sites nationally and internationally to participate in the SUPERB trial,” said Robert Wilkins, M.D., F.A.C.C., an interventional cardiologist and Vascular Medicine Specialist with Southern Heart Center. “This is another example of our and Forrest General’s commitment to bring the latest treatment options to our patients with peripheral arterial disease.”
