Forrest General offers many opportunities for women to learn more about their health, their children's health or simply find support within groups of women who may have similar life experiences.
Below are descriptions of various classes and support groups offered especially for women by Forrest General or organizations affiliated with Forrest General. Spirit of Women
Forrest General is the exclusive Spirit of Women hospital for South Mississippi, recently attaining premier status by meeting Spirit of Women National Standards of Excellence in Women's Health. Spirit of Women is a national initiative with a mission to motivate women to make positive changes in their lives, encompassing efforts to promote total well-being...mind, body and spirit. With more than 6,500 members, Forrest General's Spirit of Women program continues to grow and educate women on important health issues, while offering informative, entertaining and thought-provoking programs and events. Just for Mom
Just for Mom classes offer new moms, or moms who would like a refresher, important information on childbirth preparation, baby care, breastfeeding and labor and delivery. Click here for upcoming Just for Mom class dates.
Fitness for Two
Since the first class of post-childbirth exercise was offered in 1978, thousands of moms have benefitted from Forrest General's Fitness for Two class offerings. Mommie and Me
Mommie and Me, part of Fitness for Two, is a group of classes offered by Forrest General Hospital to new moms and their new (or newest) babies, providing a place to create important bonds with their children, interact with other moms and learn valuable information about the often challenging, but always rewarding task of raising a child.The Mommie and Me class series includes age-group sessions for the first year, babies just beginning to move and toddlers. Breast Cancer Support Group
The Breast Cancer Support Group, sponsored by Forrest General and the American Cancer Society, offers support for women who have experienced breast cancer - both newly diagnosed and those who have lived with breast cancer for years. Meetings occur on the third Monday of every month at Forrest General's Cancer Center (301 South 28th Avenue) and are free to the public.
Look Good, Feel Better
This support group is for women undergoing cancer treatment. This group offers tips and support on a variety of topics designed to make women look good and feel better, including makeup and cranial prostheses (wigs). These meetings occur on Mondays throughout the year at Forrest General's Cancer Center.
Surviving After Infertility or Loss (SAIL)
SAIL is a support group for women who are enduring infertility or who have lost a baby due to miscarriage, still birth or neonatal loss. Meetings occur on the first and third Tuesday of each month at Heritage United Methodist Church.
