Forrest General first in Mississippi to be recognized with prestigious J.D. Power and Associates Award for Cardiovascular Service Excellence
In a press conference Wednesday morning, Forrest General announced its recognition by the J.D. Power and Associates Distinguished Hospital Program, acknowledging the hospital’s commitment to provide Cardiovascular Service Excellence and “An Outstanding Patient Experience.” Forrest General is the first hospital in Mississippi to be recognized by J. D. Power and Associates, and is the first in the state to be recognized with this particular award.

This award is based on feedback received from Forrest General patients using the J.D. Power and Associates distinction eligibility survey. Results were also compared to national results from the J.D. Power and Associates National Hospital Service Performance Study SM. The recently-discharged patients were asked to offer feedback in five key areas of the patient experience in regard to Forrest General’s cardiovascular services and staff. These specific areas included the level of dignity and respect they received, speed and efficiency of the staff and facility, comfort levels, information and communication provided, and the level of emotional support offered by the staff.

Forrest General’s percentage scores exceeded the national average in each of the five key areas. Patients also reported likelihood of returning to the facility in the future (83 percent) and a high likelihood to recommend the hospital’s services to others (76 percent). Out of a possible 1,000 points awarded in the survey, Forrest General received 905 points.

Staff from many areas of Forrest General showed great dedication in providing the quality patient care that made these results possible. Staff from areas including Cardiovascular Surgery, Cardiology, Cardiac-Catheterization, PACU, ICU, Critical Care, Same Day Surgery, Cardiac-Pulmonary Rehab, the Emergency Department, Quality Management, Southern Heart Center, Home Care Services, Marketing and Communications and Pastoral Care Services all played an important part in creating positive patient experiences in cardiovascular care. Patient care areas including 2T Telemetry, 3A Patient Care, 4A Patient Care, 4T Telemetry, 9T Hospital Care Services and 7T Post-op Recovery and Patient Care are also commended for their hard work and outstanding contributions to quality patient care.

This award not only recognizes the outstanding staff that provides Forrest General’s cardiovascular services, but also recognizes Forrest General among a large group of other outstanding hospitals providing expert cardiovascular care. This award will give patients and physicians the confidence that Forrest General is a great hospital for cardiovascular care.
