Forrest General Cancer Center’s Radiation Oncology Department Receives ACR Accreditation
The Forrest General Cancer Center’s Radiation Oncology Department has been awarded a three-year accreditation by the American College of Radiology (ACR).

This accreditation demonstrates a commitment to quality patient care and provides confidence for patients and referring physicians that Forrest General’s Cancer Center is the best choice for care. This accreditation is also recognized by most insurance companies as the mark of a quality health care source. To evaluate the Cancer Center, a review was conducted by a board-certified radiation oncologist and medical physicist who represent the ACR, using practice guidelines and technical standards to evaluate appropriate delivery and documentation of radiation therapy, as well as ongoing improvement efforts at the facility. Forrest General’s Cancer Center is also accredited by the Commission on Cancer, which is an affiliate of the American College of Surgeons.

“This prestigious award is a first for us,” said radiation oncologist Joseph Salloum, M.D. “While we have always known that the Cancer Center delivers a superior level of care to our patients, this accreditation demonstrates our commitment to quality care and patient safety. It shows patients, referring physicians and payers that the Radiation Oncology Department at Forrest General’s Cancer Center has undergone a rigorous review process and meets nationally-accepted standards of care.”

The ACR, headquartered in Reston, Va., is a national organization serving more than 32,000 diagnostic and interventional radiologists, radiation oncologists and nuclear medicine and medical physicists with programs focusing on the practice of medical imaging and radiation oncology and the delivery of comprehensive health care services.
