Forrest General Hospital Recognized by J.D. Power and Associates for Providing Outstanding Maternity Experience
Forrest General Hospital is proud to announce that the hospital has been recognized for “An Outstanding Patient Experience” in Maternity Services under the J.D. Power and Associates Distinguished Hospital ProgramSM. Forrest General was recently recognized by J.D. Power and Associates for service excellence in Cardiovascular Services. This recognition further exemplifies Forrest General’s commitment to provide positive patient experiences in all areas of care.
“We are honored to receive this award from J.D. Power and Associates in recognition of our services for women and children,” said Evan Dillard, Forrest General president and CEO. “Forrest General’s very first patient in 1952 was an expectant mother, and generations of women have chosen this hospital to welcome new additions to their family. This award is a demonstration of Forrest General’s continued legacy of excellence in maternity care.”
To evaluate the hospital’s maternity services, recently-discharged Forrest General patients were surveyed about their hospital experience and the responses were compared to the national benchmarks established in the J.D. Power and Associates National Hospital Service Performance StudySM. The national study looks at speed and efficiency; dignity and respect; comfort; information and communication and emotional support. J.D. Power and Associates reports that Forrest General exceeds the national benchmark study score for patient satisfaction and performs particularly well in providing patients with dignity and respect as well as courtesy of the nurses, respect for privacy and emotional support.
Nongovernmental, acute-care hospitals throughout the nation are eligible for the J.D. Power and Associates Distinguished Hospital recognition for inpatient, maternity, cardiovascular, emergency and outpatient services. Distinction is valid for one year, after which time the hospital may reapply for this recognition.
About Forrest General’s Women and Children’s Services
This service line includes the specialties of OB/GYN, Neonatology and Pediatrics. Forrest General features the Family Birthplace, which is a recently renovated unit that provides care to women who are welcoming an addition to their family or recovering from gynecological surgery. The Labor and Delivery Unit is staffed at all times by specially-trained obstetrical nurses, techs and physicians who work to provide seamless care for the entire family and promote bonding and parental education. Forrest General’s Neonatology Services is home to a new, state-of-the-art 19-bed Neonatal Intensive Care Unit with private rooms, which allows new parents to stay with their babies at all times while receiving care in the NICU. Forrest General is also home to the Neonatal Transport Team, which is the second oldest team of its kind in the state. The staff and physicians of Neonatology Services provide sick babies with the highest level of care available in Forrest General’s 19-county service area and beyond. As an additional benefit to these tiny patients and their families, babies are monitored for two years following graduation from the NICU through the Follow-up Clinic to ensure they meet physical and developmental milestones. Forrest General’s Pediatric Unit, which is dedicated to patients under the age of 13, is supported by two groups of physicians: The Pediatric Group and The Children’s Clinic of Hattiesburg. The Pediatric Unit’s goal is to provide personalized care that aims to calm the fears that children and their parents may have during hospitalization. The unit is staffed by pediatric nurses who are certified in Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS) and receive age-specific training in caring for children. In addition to providing patient care, the Pediatric Unit is also proud to train Child Life Specialist students through a partnership with The University of Southern Mississippi.
