Reach to Recovery

Forrest General Hospital and the American Cancer Society have joined forces in offering Reach to Recovery, a rehabilitation program for women who have had breast cancer. The program is designed to help women meet the physical, emotional and cosmetic needs related to their disease and treatment. Women who have experienced breast cancer serve as volunteers to help other women facing the disease.

Volunteer Requirements:
  • "Reach" volunteers must have had breast cancer, be adjusted and be emotionally stable.
  • Volunteers must have physician approval and professional ethics knowledge.
  • Volunteers should exhibit warmth, courtesy, tact and consideration.
  • Volunteers must maintain confidentiality and participate in ongoing training updates.

The Reach to Recovery volunteer gives of herself, her time and her experience ... she cares.

Established in 1952, "Reach to Recovery" is offered by hospitals around the country. In 1969, the Reach to Recovery program became an integral part of the American Cancer Society. The program now has more than 10,000 volunteers and is available in more than 30 countries.
